DIY GIFT BASKET – IDEAS

This is the first post I am doing on a DIY (Do It Yourself) idea. Rather this one of a few gifts I gave out this past Christmas. It is working on the concept that you can use the items around you- items you find on sale at end of season. Take that and throw in some time being creative, designing and making a few things -Bam you have a one of a kind present.

CHICKEN CUP WATERMARK 1

Picture # 1 shows a koozie I made for a cup I bought. I had some fur and I cut out a chicken from yellow felt. First off I had to measure the cup and cut out the pattern. The pattern was two pieces the bottom and a long rectangle to go around the cup. Than I cut out the chicken #1 and #2 on the picture is the beak and comb which I used red felt. I also glue this on at the same time as the chicken.

I waited over night and sewed the chicken and beak and comb as best as I could to reinforce the applique. The chickens eyes are just permanent marker. Next I sewed the sides together and attached the bottom.  Now with #3 this cut had the finger holder that came with the cup. I just placed the koozie under the holder. My first thought was to use elastic but this worked out very well. Cute isn’t it? :)

WATERMARK EGGS PIC 2

Picture #2 is the second part of the homemade gift basket. Now these are Christmas tree ornaments made from eggs from our chickens, scrap material from the quilts and ribbon. It takes about five days to make these so I tend to try and make at least six at a time. On the picture I placed a one showing where the ribbon is the attachment for the ornament and in these I place a small flower beside it.#2. In a future DIY post I will show how to make these. :)

WATERMARK ALL GOODIE 3

Picture #3 shows everything in the basket. Items #1 are a neck warmer and hand warmer made with scrap material lined with flannel and filled with white rice. #2 is the Chicken Cup, #3 are coaster I made from pictures of my chickens ( printed the photos at the library and decoupage onto tiles from our local hardware store. the coaster have a piece of felt glued on the back to protect any furniture. #4 is the ornaments made from our very own chicken’s eggs and #5 shows the container- a wonderful flower pot that can be used any time of year.

FINISHED WATERMARK 4

Picture #4 is the final product :) yea!! the whole thing is put together in the flower pot and I use sheer fabric from the fabric store. It all comes together well with ribbon you have picked up through the year on sale. Now You can use the plastic covering but I have found the material is a bit wider and makes it easier to tie. The beauty of this project is everything is all about you what you want to make to go inside what ever container you choose to use. A huge Hi out to my dear friend to received this basket this past Christmas I did not post this till after the holidays just for you. (big smile)

As I like to end my post with a scripture from the Bible I would like to say one of the best presents I received this past Christmas was a daily planner full of scripture. Truth be told I often find myself looking at the day’s saying thinking  that passage is perfect but what is perfect is it was the perfect gift at the perfect time.

From the NIV version, JOB 22:21

“Submit to the God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you.”
